I have been working with clay for 10 years. Growing up, I was always drawn to clay and pottery, and finally got a chance to take an elective class in college while studying Geology at Appalachian State University.
I continued to work with clay as a hobby when I moved to Athens to pursue my MS in Geology at UGA. After years of making pots part-time, I am excited to be a full-time studio potter. I have a pottery at the Pastures of Rose Creek, a grass-fed cattle farm in Watkinsville, GA. The majority of my work is fired in wood-fired kilns. I am always amazed by the patterns that the flames and ash leave on my work as the wind their way through the kiln. I like to see how I can create an interplay between the markings from the fire and the patterns I choose to put on my work.
What I most love about working with clay, is that there is always a new problem to be resolved and a new question to be asked, and a new facet of my work to explore. In short, I know I will never get bored. Regardless of whether my pots are intended for the kitchen, the mantle, or the garden, I hope that they can bring everyday joy to those who use them.
