I began working with clay in 2008. Growing up, I was always drawn to clay and pottery, and finally got a chance to take an elective class in college while studying Geology at Appalachian State University.
I continued to work with clay as a hobby when I moved to Athens to pursue my MS in Geology at UGA. After years of making pots part-time, I began working as a full-time studio potter in 2018 when I set up my first studio at my now late husband’s family farm in Watkinsville, GA. The majority of my work is fired in wood-fired kilns. I am always amazed by the patterns that the flames and ash leave on my work. I like to see how I can create an interplay between the markings from the fire and the patterns I choose to put on my work.
What I most love about working with clay, is that there is always a new problem to be resolved, a new question to be asked, and a new facet of my work to explore. Regardless of whether my pots are intended for the kitchen, the mantle, or the garden, I hope that they can bring everyday joy to those who use them.
